HD Trailers on github and P5N7A-VM note
Hi all,
In my last post I mentioned that I had written and lost a php based site to assist media managers in scraping for trailers. One of the issues the media managers face is scraping for movie trailers. The only large and stable enough repositories out there for movie trailers are Apple Trailers, Yahoo Trailers and YouTube. Unfortunately Apple Trailers seems to remove trailers after the movie has been released for a few months and Yahoo trailers doesn’t seem to have a mass of HD trailers or any real structure (although I have not really investigated it). The issue with YouTube is that while there are plenty of movie trailers in HD quality, it would be virtually impossible for the media managers to automatically select the best trailer from the search results.
In steps the php based database. Users can visit the site and add trailers to the database by simply inputting the IMDB ID of the movie and the YouTube URL. The trailer then enters a moderation queue which is then approved/deleted after it has been verified. The media managers then can query my site and are returned with the correct, verified YouTube trailer for that particular movie based on its IMDB ID.
Why am I describing the need for this database and how it works? I have decided to post the source for the php site on github. It is currently almost a base CodeIgniter install as I haven’t had a chance to work on it too much but if you are an experienced php/CodeIgniter developer and feel like chipping in, post a comment and we can talk.
The P5N7A-VM work was moving along nicely this weekend to finish off the current issues involved. I know you all are saying “what could possibly be taking so long?!” but the remaining EHCI+OHCI issues are not a simple or quick fix. I’m sure many of you currently running the P5N7A-VM are experiencing a similar message on -v boot or are experiencing sleep/waking issues. If there is anyone here running a P5N7a-VM with absolutely no auto-sleep/sleep/wake from USB issues, post your kext list, DSDT and BIOS settings.

I’m sure you’re getting tons of support, but I just want to chime in and say thanks for doing this! I really, really appreciate it. I can’t wait to have an OS X-based HTPC!

@Chris
Thanks for the support! Again I apologize for the delay in getting the P5N7A-VM sorted but it is tricky and is being worked on!

hey, I’m not sure if it helps but you can turn off “usb legacy support”. It should stop these errors…

@chris_rock yep, we are well aware of that ability, but it does not solve the complete underlying issue. Signal64 is currently working on it, ACPI code can be difficult sometimes

Hi!
First and foremost, a big THANK YOU for the P5N7A guide! i followed it and am running SL flawlessly for a couple of months now!
Can’t wait for it! What about the 10.6.3 update…is it safe to go trough with it?
Any indications on how long it will take for the updated P5N7A-guide?

@metph
Sorry for the delay in the reply.
The issue, if you read my other posts, is with getting USB to handover properly. Signal64 has been working at it but is basically rewriting the entire DSDT. However, he has been working on a couple other motherboards as well and some issues with the DSDT changing depending on CPU. I know he is still working on it but no idea when it will officially be done. I promised him not to release any information until he has accomplished fixing the USB issue and that is why I have not posted anything despite having a basically flawless install method at the moment (obviously, besides the USB EHCI issue on boot).
Upgrading to 10.6.3 is fine, however, if you are using a discrete graphics card (ATI 48×0 etc., be sure to backup the files).
I will try to put together a new, faster, better install guide without stepping on Signal64.
