Changing hosting provider
This domain name was purchased with the intent of relaunching a previous project (a site for home theatre pc enthusiasts – hence the name allHTPC.com) but I threw on this subdomain to jot down and publicize some of the hackintosh related info, especially as it related to the Asus P5N7A-VM motherboard. The HTPC main site was meant for a niche community that I didn’t/don’t expect to get large enough to warrant any serious web server and as such got pretty much the cheapest hosting out there – GoDaddy.
I had been using GoDaddy for about a year now and while nothing was ever rally wrong with their service, the site and ftp were a bit slow and their ‘control panel’ was such a mish-mash of links and information that it was always slightly tedious to do anything. Last week I did quite a bit of research into good web-hosts. I did way more research than was necessary and looked at everything from shared hosting, to cloud hosting, to VPS hosting. During my research I came across the full spectrum web-hosting quality from superb to atrocious. I looked at Rackspace, Liquidweb, Midphase, eleven2, OVH, mediatemple among many many others. However, I was smart enough to realise that VPS or cloud hosting was completely overkill for my site and I decided to go with a quality shared host.
After wading through the WebHostingTalk forums I came across SharkSpace. I did not come across a single negative review and all current customers were giving extremely positive reviews. Coupled with the 50% off shared hosting plans for life, I was sold.
I did not expect much from shared hosting but I must say that SharkSpace has been beyond fantastic. The site and ftp are fast, support is almost instant, they use cPanel, the client area is well laid out and easy to navigate, they offer quick install apps (such as this WordPress) – and all for $4.95/mo on the Hammerhead plan. Amazing!
So if you are currently using GoDaddy, BlueHost, etc. etc. I highly recommend moving to SharkSpace.
Now on to some more pertinent information for 98% of you visitors:
I know some of you are simply visiting here waiting for the full install package for your P5N7A-VM to be released and I swear to you it is still being worked on. I have promised that it would be out a few times already but I actually intend to uphold my promise this time when I say that you will be getting it by the end of January.
PS: I do not work for SharkSpace, I simply endorse quality products and services. If my view of SharkSpace changes over the coming months as I use them, I will certainly post about it.

@John Danger
Blame Signal64 for the most thorough testing every conceived.
edit: I’ll try to get out a beta version tomorrow then.

@fcol thanks for the offer but right now we got enough people to test it.
I tried to get a beta out yesterday but Signal64 is really against putting out something that he feels isn’t ready. We have all been pretty busy the last month and a half and the last niggling issues are ones that require quite a bit of work.
I’ll try to give him a kick to get the last issues sorted but there is only so much time we have to work on this.

Anyword on the guide? My hack got fubar’d with 10.6.2/3 and I’m trying to resurrect it now. Your guide was immensely important to the first install.

Oh….and any chance getting a copy of the old guide? I seem to have misplaced my hardcopy.

I will try to put together a new, faster, better install guide without stepping on Signal64.

I have an old hard copy that I can type up and send to you. Just email me at yahoo.com. FWIW, I couldn’t find some of the files it referenced so I wasn’t able to re-install. But I didn’t try very hard to find them either.
